Some even say pregnant women should eat twice from eating normally. But is it true that pregnant women need to increase capacity so up to two times?
Healthy eating is important for pregnant women and babies in the womb. But eating too much will only make women struggled during childbirth due to excessive weight.
In one study, women who do not maintain weight during pregnancy increases the risk of serious health such as obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure later in life. The results will be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
According to experts, expectant mothers do not need to make any changes to a regular diet 1940 calories per day for the first six months of their pregnancy. After about three months, until the baby is born, pregnant women only need an additional 200 calories a day, which is almost the same as ready-made fruit salad and yoghurt, or a small bowl of sugar-free muesli with grated apple.
Research over 16 years is to test the impact of weight gain during pregnancy on health outcomes. Researchers conducted a long-term study 3877 mothers in western England. For the purposes of research, the research team compared the weight gain during pregnancy women with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and blood pressure 16 years later.
They also take factors such as age, sex of the child, social status, smoking, physical activity, diet during pregnancy, delivery method, and duration of breastfeeding. The women gain weight maximum 16 kg.
This study noted the risk of being 'apple shaped' due to being overweight at 16 years later. The risk is three times higher for women who accumulate fat exceeds the recommended weight during pregnancy.
Dr Abigail Fraser, author of the report at the University of Bristol in England says, "Our findings indicate that regular monitoring of weight gain in pregnancy may need to be reconsidered because it provides an opportunity to prevent health problems later in life."
"You do not need to eat for two during pregnancy because this will cause problems later on, and was also associated with higher risk of your baby becomes obese in childhood," he explained.
